New Internet Sensation Billy Hurley III Explains His Awesome Viral Video Against Jordan Spieth

PGA Tour player Billy Hurley III came up with a genius video to “attack” rival Jordan Spieth as they vied for Chairman of the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council.

Hurley explains his epiphany and the chairman’s actual duties on Golfworld.com’s podcast with Sam Weinman.

It was conceived the day after I found out I was running against Jordan for the chairmanship. My caddie came up with the idea that we needed to do a campaign ad. We tried to make it as funny and ridiculous as we could, and make it as over-the-top as possible so as not to misconstrue it was nothing more than satire and comedy.

“Yeah, I texted (Spieth) about it and he just laughed and said ‘That’s great with me,'” Hurley said on the Podcast. “I had no intention of really swaying the votes. We just figured we can make this really funny, and we obviously did.”

Hurley lost his battle to Spieth yesterday.

“The chairmanship doesn’t add that much responsibility this year, but for the next three years, that position will be on the board of directors for the PGA Tour. The ultimate challenge is agreeing on what is the best thing for the PGA Tour.”

Jordan is well-spoken and thinks things out in a mature manner. He has a good handle on what’s best for the Tour. Jordan and I would end up on the same side of the issues.

Question is, why would Jordan want the job? You’d think someone in the twilight of his career would chase the post. But as we’ve seen, Jordan Spieth is mature beyond his years. It also exhibits Spieth’s fellow peers who voted for him feel the same way.
