2025 Range Rover Sport Dynamic 460 SE PHEV

The oft-admired Land Rover brand continues to add excellent rides to its popular roster. The reassurance of its iconic 4-wheel capability overcoming various climatic and terrain Armageddons enhances the brand’s allure for asphalt-loving urbanites and off-road swashbucklers.
If you want proof, watch any European action flick and notice the ubiquitous brand driven by important and powerful characters. Usually adorned in black while imprinting on our brain that cool folks drive these.
A terrific new option is the much-anticipated 2025 Range Rover Sport Dynamic 460e SE PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle). It strikes a Goldilocks “just right” footprint, melding design notes from the siblings while ramping up the tech with enough room to comfortably schlep families and conquering whatever mayhem Mother Nature throws at it.
You ride confidently high in the saddle surrounded by a robust shell and upscale interior materials. In essence, the sport PHEV is comfy, luxurious and kinda fuel-friendly when combining gas and electricity. All this while feeling nearly bulletproof with its safety and off-road capabilities.
SKIN
My ever-curious neighbors immediately noticed the Range Rover Sport 460 PHEV adorned in that amazing Fuji White paint (no one does white like Land Rover). While there’s no mistaking its heritage, this Sport PHEV casts a more modern, aerodynamic silhouette with just enough glossy black and silver/grey accents providing the perfect contrast.
The front is handsomely modern with a simplistic design. Two narrow LED headlights bracket the grilles. Door handles stay flush until they present themselves when unlocked (a great way to double-check when leaving the SUV). The cool rear LED lights and conversation-starting puddle lights add to the allure. Two shark fin antennas on the roof handle radio signals, with the twin responsible for data communications, including mobile data.
A power sliding Panoramic roof in front and a permanent glass in the rear look terrific, along with the contrasting black roof. I found myself (along with others in the parking lot) admiring it from near and far. Optional 23” Off Road rubber, Gloss Black rims and red brake calipers finish the winning combo. Suffice it to say, it’s a crowd pleaser.
PERFORMANCE
The Sport SE PHEV possesses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo in-line six-cylinder engine delivering 400hp/487 lb-ft when combined with a 48-watt battery. The 0-60 in 5.3 seconds feels quicker. Or choose the lightning-quick 550e with 543hp/509 lb-ft for about $40,000 more.
The battery-only range is 51 miles. Gas adds an additional 370 miles. Dynamic mode kicks up the RPMs and tightens steering for more spirited driving, but I found the Hybrid mode the best for regular drive mode good enough to zoom up ramps.
The battery can be re-juiced from zero to 80% in an hour and fully charged in four hours when using a Level 2 charging station. I’d strongly recommend installing one at the house for convenience.
I squeezed 20 city, 25 highway – not bad for a 5,387 lb. warrior. It will also tow up to 6,615 lbs.
As with the entire Land Rover four-wheel drive line, this sublime cargo carrier is all about confidently navigating to your destination, no matter the obstacle. With an abundance of custom terrain settings in the All-Terrain Response, the Range Rover Dynamic SE PHEV puts any nervous driver at ease by automatically adjusting for off-road conditions. In fact, the Air Suspension/Adaptive Dynamics raises the ride for off-road obstacles and automatically lowers when stopped and the door is open. It’ll slog through nearly three feet of water utilizing the 3D Surround Camera with Wade Sensing to monitor the conditions. It’s a worthy pet trick at your next soccer game.
The Range Rover Sport PHEV offers ABS brakes, Hill Descent Control (HDC), Roll Stability Control (RSC), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), High-Speed Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and All-Terrain Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) when facing grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts and sand. That’s a slew of acronyms, but suffice it to say all are worthy when called upon.
Yet, for such an off-road beast, it’s surprisingly calm on the road, cruising extremely well. There’s Normal, Sport and Manual shift modes upon request inside the eight-speed transmission. The able air suspension allows you to carve the turns, feeling extremely planted. Even the large 23” tires soak up the bumps.
CABIN
Even with all those driving attributes, the 2025 Range Rover Dynamic SE PHEV amps up the wow in the man cave cocoon. Luxurious appointments abound with impeccable materials and lovely perforated Windsor Leather-grained seats that heat and ventilate in the front. There are adjustable armrests as well. The 20-way power heated and ventilated front seats are some of the most comfortable I’ve experienced and, as stated, you ride mighty tall above the fray. Plus, you get that delicious British leather smell.
The dash is nicely laid out with updated, clearer displays. The patina-colored 13.1” infotainment screen is delightfully quicker in response – a great improvement over the previous “laggy” configurations. They are bright and easy to read. Even the gear shift is off the middle console to allow for more storage if needed. I would recommend at least a few actual knobs for climate, audio volume and drive mode. Get acquainted, familiarizing yourself with the myriad infotainment choices before hitting the road.
You’ll notice tasteful, attractive trim throughout and ambient interior lighting options. Improved aerodynamics and insulation keep the interior library quiet. Designers thoughtfully added suit hangers behind the front seats.
The roofline is tall, and the expansive panoramic cloth moonroof shade unfolds early to the rear, giving passengers an illuminating open-air feel. Windowsills are blissfully low enough to comfortably rest your elbows. Those lower door sills are watertight, so you won’t soil your pant legs when entering some H20.
Rear seats are heated and reclinable.
Head-Up-Display ($1,350) with speed sign recognition and navigation is available on the windshield to keep the peepers safely on the road. The high-def Overhead Camera gives important views when parking in tight spots.
A bonus feature is the full camera in the rear-view mirror ($600). With the high rear seats and spare tire on the rear, visibility is a bit compromised, but the crystal-clear camera view is completely unobstructed (going three lanes across). Genius.
Cargo room is good to shlep gear at 31.9 cu-ft. behind the second row and 53 cu-ft. behind the front seats. Copious storage shelves in the dash hold all kinds of road trip knick-knacks, and you get two glove compartments. It will house five adults comfortably. Multiple golf bags easily fit.
TECH TOYS
The Pivi Pro Infotainment system includes NAV, Rear-View and Surround cameras, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone and mp3 music files, Voice Activation and Secure Tracker to find your ride.
The responsive infotainment via a faster processor delivers near-immediate response, and the displays are ultra clear. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto seamlessly connect with your Bluetooth. Check out the Comfort Pack ($2,170) with Four-Zone Climate Control and a handy center console fridge to keep your drinks chilled.
The tester housed the optional Meridian 14-speaker 3D Surround Sound audio system for $1,200. Combined with the improved cabin acoustics, the sound is superb, and you can preset stations across all formats. Bluetooth transmission is clear.
The 2025 Range Rover Sport Dynamic 460 SE PHEV starts at $95,000. Yes, the options can quickly raise the sticker cost, but Land Rover’s target audience tends to value extravagance, technology, secure 4-wheel drive and panache. Thus, this Range Rover Sport is a great pick if you’re into combining battery power with the ease of filling up with good ‘ol petrol. You’d be wise to try one on for yourself and starring in your own action flick.
