Brooks Koepka Mysteriously Loses 25 Pounds

Brooks Koepka looks more like a free safety than PGA Tour player. He works out maniacally–even before Tournament rounds.

So it’s come as a curious surprise to many why he’s purposely lost about 24 lbs. –and about “10-12 yards” in driving distance. GolfChannel’s Ryan Lavner attempts to uncover the mystery.

It’s intentional, of course, though Koepka isn’t yet saying why.

“You’ll see,” he said after the final round of The Players. “After Wednesday I’ll be fine.”

Over the past few months Koepka has been training twice a day, running and eating healthier.

“More of everything,” he said.

Except food, apparently.

“I just want to be able to eat again,” he said. “I’m going to put it back on. I just want to eat normal and not train as hard. Everything has been double the intensity, double the time.”

Okay, so far no reveals.

“When you go from 212 pounds to 190, there’s not as much weight going forward through the ball,” he said. “I don’t have as much feel. I just feel out of sorts.”

Koepka says the sacrifice has been worth it, that it’s “only four months of my career.”

This almost sounds like an extreme body cleanse. That’s cool as I’ve done it several times and it does help reset your body and mind to eat healthier or give up damaging vices.

Yet, I’m not sure about the timing. Why now? Why not over the winter? Maybe Brooks will divulge the reasoning soon because I sure can’t figure it out.
