Dylan Frittelli Wins First PGA Tour Event With Maybe The Worst Strength Of Field Ever

Dylan Frittelli won his first PGA Tour event yesterday by capturing the John Deere Classic. The South African became the third straight player to make the JD his first Tour victory. He’ll receive all the goodies including an immediate trip to this week’s Open Championship, a 2-year exemption and an invite to the Masters. His bogey-free 64 final round sealed the win.

Good stuff Mr. Frittelli.

And yes, someone had to win, but whoa, the John Deere’s Strength of Field point total was, uh, let’s say embarrassing at 76 points?!?!

That is the worst of any non-alternate event on the Tour–in fact, none of them has less than 200 points.

Look at the four majors’ SoF totals.

PGA                901

U.S. Open     838

Masters         796

The Open     Won’t know until event officially begins on Thursday

The best non-majors:

PLAYERS           882              Only beaten by the PGA

WGC-Dell          781

WGC-Mexico    720

Memorial           596

Arnold Palmer  545

Genesis Open   542

RBC Heritage   460

And how did our Texas-based events (besides the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin)

Charles Schwab     377

Nelson                     219

Valero                      215

So, even though us Dallasites lamented the SoF of the Nelson, it was still 3x better than the JD. And Frittelli receives all the normal perks of a PGA Tour winner.
