It Was A Great Day To Be Edward Loar

Edward Loar graciously accepted our invitation to hang out on a hole and hit shots with players during our AG event at Tangle Ridge GC yesterday. The bit included a nice incentive. Make an ace and get a new ride from Mike Brosin’s Crest Cars in Frisco and Plano.

The other sideshow was how many shots Craig Rosengarden and I could hit inside Loar’s from 100-yards on the 9th hole at Tangle Ridge. The over/under was set at eight.

Quick background: AG Magazine has put on at least three events a year for the last 18 years. Craig and I sit on a hole and hit balls with the foursomes while hoping someone scores an ace and big cash prizes. Not one time have we seen a group member–or ourselves–sink an ace. Never, never, never. However, this was the first time we enticed a professional player to give it a go.

And so it began. Initially, Eddie was having a tougher time dialing it in than Craig and me. In fact, we met the O/U on about the 10th attempt. So, I brought something that the fervent OSU grad would hate–if we met the challenge. As you can see below.

Look how thrilled Loar was with the lid.

But, Edward began dialing it in and on the 15th shot, magic happened. His flighted 56-degree landed above the hole, trickled down the embankment and…DISAPPEARED! Ace. Hole-in-one! Bedlam! Unfortunately, he had I performed the worst golf double high five in history–we missed both hands. But, and it’s a big but, Loar won a 2-year lease on a new ride from Crest Cars, $2,500 in his pocket, another $2,500 for his favorite charity and each player in the group hitting pocketed a cool $1,000 each for being fortunate bystanders.

It was the first time I saw an ace in person. And given what was on the line, we couldn’t be happier. Big thanks to Doug Donley’s Advantage Hole In One insurance company for offering to cover the promotion.

Thus. good times were had by all at the AG event. Big thanks to Managing Partner Mike Brosin, Crest Cars, Tangle Ridge GC’s staff including GM Mark Viskozki and of course Edward Loar for participating.

Be on the lookout for more successful bits next year.
