Let’s Count The Reasons Why Our U.S. Ryder Cup Road Team Is A Mess

Our visiting Ryder Cup squad is a bloody mess. They’re maybe the worst road team in sports history. They can’t adjust to foreign course conditions. They’re too busy or lazy to preview said foreign lands. The captains (and their Vice Captain nannies) put together strange combinations that make no reasonable sense. They point fingers (including wives) at each other rather than accepting blame.

All this means is another just another notch in the loss column. What the hell happened this time? PLENTY.

Workout buddies Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka nearly came to blows after the matches ended Sunday.

The duo, nicknamed the ‘Bash Brothers’ had popped into the European dressing room for a beer, but things got out of hand and they had to be pulled apart.

Johnson’s fiancee, Paulina Gretzky, was reported to have been close by when the alleged incident happened. One of the European players’ wives also was a witness, according to The Telegraph, which also said that “an insider” reported that she was “clearly shocked and upset by the nastiness, which was very threatening.”

Patrick Reed insinuated everyone was to blame (except him of course) including immature egos and horrible captain decisions.

“The issue’s obviously with Jordan not wanting to play with me,” Reed said in the interview with the Times. “I don’t have any issue with Jordan. When it comes right down to it, I don’t care if I like the person I’m paired with or if the person likes me as long as it works and it sets up the team for success. He and I know how to make each other better. We know how to get the job done.”

“He is so full of s–t,’’ the source told The Post on Monday. “Blindsided my ass. He begged to play with Tiger.’’

According to the Times story, Reed claimed Woods “apologized’’ to him after they lost their Friday fourball (best ball) match to Molinari and Fleetwood.

Reed said he was also chafed at being benched Friday and Saturday afternoon.

“For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am, I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice,” Reed said.

Reed was benched in the afternoon, as was Woods. The next morning, Reed again played with Woods and lost to Molinari and Fleetwood in a match in which Reed hit more balls in the water than a 15-handicapper would.

“He would have shot 83 on his own ball Saturday,’’ the source said. “He totally screwed Tiger. He has no clue how to play team golf. I saw firsthand how bad of a team player he was. Eleven players understood the concept of team golf and only one didn’t. Unfortunately, that one proved to be too costly for the team to overcome.

“I feel so bad for Jim, because he was an unreal captain. He would have run through a wall for all 12 of the guys. Unfortunately, there were only 11 players that would have returned the favor.’’

Reed and his wife Justine appear to enjoy fanning the flames. They appear to be made for each other.

What a S-show.

Captain Furyk curiously putting the wildly erratic Phil Mickelson in foursomes (alternate shot)?!?! Only Phil can eradicate himself from the wayward shots he hits. Pairing him with the analytical Bryson DeChambeau turned into a predicable (to many) disaster losing 5 & 4. No one still has figured out that one.

His four captains’ picks (Woods, Mickelson, Tony Finau and DeChambeau and were 2-10 with rookie Finau winning both points. That’s the worst in U.S. history.  Woods and Mickelson were a combined 0-6.  Conversely, Bjorn’s four picks — Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Paul Casey — went a combined 9-4-1, delivering 9 ½ of the Euros’ 17 ½ points.

It all adds up to another woeful performance by a group of stellar golfers who apparently cannot adjust to the not so friendly confines. Hell, only Justin Thomas took the time to visit Le Golf National–and it showed as he went 4-1. The course is on the regular Euro Tour season rotation so many of the team was familiar with the layout.

Finally, Jordan Spieth’s inexplicable record of 0-6 in combined Ryder Cup/President’s Cup singles matches. You’d like to think he’s better than that but wow, what a disturbing trend.

No doubt for more fallout to come. I’m sure it won’t be pretty. If winning is a great deodorant, losing exposes a bunch of B.O.
