How Conspirators Tried To Ruin Spieth’s Incredible Bogey

The story of the British Open was Jordan Spieth’s epic scrambling bogey on 13 Sunday. Of course, couch conspirators had to weigh in to muddy the waters after this was posted in jest to mess with the trollers.

The timeline following the prank is worth reading to see how many took the bait. It’s fairly easy these days to draw folks off sides since we tend to skim and scan captivating headlines rather than dive into the actual (factual or otherwise) info. Such is the present world we inhabit.

Thus the misinformed immediately believed Jordan put down his fairway wood as an alignment aid for his blind recovery shot from the practice range. But as you can see from Brandel Chamblee’s tweet, the conspiracy is bunk if only because the club on the ground is pointed way right of Spieths’ intended target line.

Remember, caddie Michael Greller had the bag over the ridge to follow the shot. Spieth was trying to decide on either a 3-metal or 3-iron as he estimated a 270-yard shot while Greller correctly had 230–and merely dropped the wood after choosing the iron.

No calamity. No penalty. Nothing to see here people. Move on. And applaud the prank by Mr. Tron Carter.

One more nugget: Spieth already has 3 major wins and 3 second place finishes in his young career.

Anyway, Spieth arrived back in Dallas at 5am to a surprise champagne party.

The Claret Jug will be busy making the rounds too.

Several took part in drinking from the Jug at a concert at House of Blues last night.
