Is Brooks Koepka The Rodney Dangerfield Of Pro Golfers?

Brooks Koepka owns three major victories–and two straight in 2018. He’s also the #1 ranked player in the world. Yet, he doesn’t receive the fawning media love saved for a Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Justin Rose or even a Frank Molinari, Tommy Fleetwood or workout teammate Dustin Johnson.

I’m not sure why either. Yes, Koepka has made it known that he feels snubbed by the lack of interview requests or not posting his name as a major contender among his peers at a tournament. Honestly, he has a major point. But he’s also not a jerk, is built like a safety, can launch a ball into the stratosphere and possesses the putting touch of a bomb diffuser. Oh, and he was voted the PGA Tour Player of the Year.

How many others with that resume toil in relative obscurity?

So what gives when ESPN put out their list of the top-20 dominating athletes in 2018?

Brooks’ response?

There’s only one pro golfer on the list at #4 but no other Tour player. Yes, Brooks missed a slew of events with a badly injured wrist, but came back with a vengeance to win his 2nd straight U.S. Open (first time that’s happened since Curtis Strange in 1989) and hoisting the Wanamaker Trophy two months thereafter.

As Golf.com posted

While lifting with fellow pro Dustin Johnson prior to the third round, fans fawned over DJ but didn’t even recognize Koepka. “I use it as motivation. You can’t hide when you’re on the top of the leaderboard. You can’t hide my name.”

It’s puzzling to say the least I’m sure for his management team at Hambric Sports in Dallas. However, if Brooks continues his winning ways, isn’t that the very best revenge?
