Michael Jordan And Jim Nantz Laud Woods’ Masters Win

Tiger Woods’
Masters victory caught many by surprise (trust me, so were you). Two who’ve seen their share of incredible sports moments believe its the best comeback they’ve ever witnessed. Michael Jordan offers his reaction as GolfChannel’s Will Gray reports.

“I took two years off to play baseball, but nothing like that,” Jordan told The Athletic. “I’m pretty sure he questioned himself, whether he could get it back, and he had to put a lot of work in. But he took it head-on. He had to change his game; he had to change his perspective a little bit. To me, it was the greatest comeback I’ve ever seen.”

Jordan admitted that Woods’ performance “surprised” him to a certain extent, and after watching him slip into a fifth green jacket he called Woods this week to offer his congratulations.

“I never thought he’d get back physically,” Jordan said. “He didn’t think he’d get back physically. But he did it. No one expected him to be back the way he is now. He’s probably the only person who believed he could get back. To me, that’s a major accomplishment. To me, it’s unbelievable. Mentally, you always think you can. But you can’t answer to what your body has to deal with.”

Jim Nantz–who began his golf broadcasting for CBS during Jack Nicklaus’ incredible Masters victory in 1986–says the Woods’ win was the best he’s ever covered — in any sport.

Fresh off witnessing Woods’ improbable and historic 15th major title from the 18th tower at Augusta National, Nantz was quick to put it at the top of his impressive list during an interview with The Washington Post’s Ben Strauss.

“I’ve done 34 Final Fours, had Super Bowls, Peyton [Manning’s] farewell. It’s been 48 hours since it ended, and I’d say it’s going to feel about the same 10 years from now,” said Nantz, who has already called this year’s Super Bowl and Final Four in addition to the Masters since February. “It’s the best event I’ve ever covered. And I feel very fortunate to have been in that spot.”
